Feeding notes are easy to lose at 3am. A baby feeding tracker only helps if the next caregiver can see the last bottle, breastfeed or milk total without asking twice. Luna lets you log milk feeds, breastfeeds and solid-food feeds into one shared family timeline, with daily milk totals visible alongside sleep and nappies.
This page is about record-keeping. Luna does not recommend volumes, schedules or techniques. For breastfeeding and bottle-feeding information from the NHS, see NHS baby breastfeeding and bottle feeding.
What feeding looks like in Luna
Verified from the live product, connector and API:
- Log milk / bottle feeds with amount (ml) and time, including via
log_feedon the MCP connector orPOST /api/vega/logwith typemilk. - Log breastfeeds as feeding events on the same timeline.
- Log solids with foods and meal type when weaning has started (see also the weaning & allergen tracker).
- See milk today as a running total on the family view (homepage product demo and
get_today/ live status tools). - Next-feed style estimates appear in live status from your recent log patterns: organisational prompts, not clinical feeding plans.
- Partner sharing: both parents and invited caregivers update the same feed history with separate logins.
How to track feeds day to day
- Start free at /onboard.
- After a bottle or breastfeed, tap to log it (or ask a connected assistant: “log 150 ml milk”).
- Glance at today’s milk total before a handover.
- Add a short note when something unusual happened that you want the other parent to see.
- Use undo/edit if you mistap: the connector exposes
undo_last,edit_eventanddelete_eventfor app-sourced events.
Folding in related feeding searches
If you arrived from queries like baby feed tracker, feeding log, feeding diary, feeding schedule tracker, infant feeding tracker, newborn feeding, night feeding, milk tracker, formula tracker, breastfeeding tracker or bottle tracker, you are in the right place. Those intents share one workflow in Luna: log the feed, keep it on the shared timeline, read it back later.
Night feeds are the same event type with a night-time stamp: useful when shifts swap after midnight. Formula vs breast vs mixed is reflected in what you choose to log and in profile milk-type context; Luna still does not tell you which method to use.
Combined feeding and sleep days stay readable because both event types sit on one timeline, also covered in the sleep and routine pillars.
A realistic overnight feed example
Imagine it is 02:40. One parent finishes a bottle, logs 150 ml milk, and puts the phone down. At 06:00 the other parent opens Luna, sees the overnight feed on the shared timeline, and does not need a whispered debrief. That is the whole product bet for feeding: fewer reconstructions, more sleep for whoever is off shift.
If you use a connected assistant, the same log can happen hands-free: create a token under Settings → Connect an assistant, connect Muse or Claude to https://getmyluna.app/mcp, then say “log 150 ml milk.” The connector’s log_feed tool writes into the same family timeline the app uses. Logging through an assistant stays on the free plan; only Ask Luna (ask_luna) needs Plus.
What Luna does not claim about feeding
To keep claims honest against the live site:
- No recommended ml per feed or per day.
- No latch coaching, pumping schedules or formula brand advice.
- No “your baby is overdue a feed” medical alerts: live status can show hunger-style state and next-feed estimates from your log, which you may ignore.
- No replacement for tongue-tie clinics, lactation consultants or paediatric assessment.
If feeding hurts, output worries you, or weight gain concerns you, contact a qualified professional. Luna will still be there afterwards to keep the organisational log tidy.
Keeping feeding data tidy over the first months
Early on you may log every feed. Later, some families log less detail and lean on daily totals. Both are fine. Practical habits that match how Luna is built:
- Prefer logging when the feed ends, not hours later.
- Use notes sparingly (“cluster evening”, “expressed milk”) so the timeline stays scannable.
- Fix wrong amounts with edit/undo instead of adding duplicate correcting events.
- When solids start, keep milk and solids as separate clear events so week reviews stay meaningful.
Developers can script the same actions with bearer tokens against /api/vega/log and /api/vega/live; most parents never need the API, but it is the same tracker underneath (developers).
Want calm answers from your own log?
Free Luna already keeps the shared tracker and the assistant connector. Luna Plus (£3.99/mo) adds Ask Luna: answers and summaries grounded in what your family has actually logged, in the app or through a connected assistant such as Meta Muse or Claude.
Ask Luna Plus things like “how much milk did we log today?” and get an answer from your family’s own feed records, not a generic internet tip.
Safety boundary
Luna is for organising baby logs and routine summaries. It is not a medical device and does not diagnose, treat, assess allergies, set doses, or replace a qualified health professional or emergency services. For symptoms, medication, allergy or treatment decisions, use a qualified health professional or urgent care route. Read our Safety page for the full boundary.
